Cynthia Shumate

Cynthia Shumate has extensive work experience in the legal and intellectual property (IP) field. Cynthia is currently working as a Senior Director of IP at Lyell Immunopharma since April 2022. Prior to that, they worked as a Director of IP at Zymeworks Inc. from August 2020 to March 2022.

Before their role at Zymeworks Inc., Cynthia worked as an Attorney at Westlake Legal Consulting, PS for ten years, from August 2010 to August 2020. Cynthia also served as the Chief Legal Officer at the Institute for Systems Biology from November 2014 to January 2018.

Additionally, Cynthia held various IP-related positions in the biotechnology industry, including Vice President of Intellectual Property at Juno Therapeutics from October 2013 to June 2014, Legal Counsel at ZetaRx BioSciences, Inc. from June 2010 to October 2013, and Of Counsel at Merchant & Gould from March 2009 to June 2010.

Cynthia'searlier career includes serving as the Vice President of Legal Affairs at PDL BioPharma, Inc. from an unspecified date in 2004 to 2008, as well as working as an Associate General Counsel at Corixa Corporation from an unspecified date in 1998 to April 2004.

Cynthia Shumate has a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law. Cynthia also holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Chemistry from Western Washington University. In addition to their formal education, Cynthia has obtained various certifications.
