Lin Louie

Director Of Process Engineering at Lygos

Lin Louie has a diverse work experience in the field of chemical engineering. They have worked as an Associate Director of Process Scaleup at Lygos since 2022. Prior to that, they held roles at Zymergen, starting as a Senior Process Development Engineer from March 2020 to August 2021, and then as a Staff Process Development Engineer from August 2021 to November 2022. At Zymergen, they have led technology transfers, completed scale-up campaigns, and designed bench scale experiments.

Before joining Zymergen, Lin was the Director of DSP and Chemistry at Visolis, Inc. from December 2017 to March 2020 and also worked as a Senior Engineer from September 2017 to January 2019. At Visolis, they had responsibilities related to downstream processing (DSP) and chemistry.

Prior to their industry experience, Lin worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at UC Berkeley from August 2011 to December 2017, where they focused on biomass upgrading and catalyst design. They also worked as a Fulbright Scholar at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden from September 2010 to June 2011, conducting research on sustainable energy and biomass gasification.

Furthermore, Lin gained research experience as a Chemical Engineer Student Researcher at the New Jersey Institute of Technology from June 2009 to December 2010, where they worked on developing environmentally benign mixing methods. They also had a research internship at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from June 2008 to August 2008, where they studied water treatment methods using bimetallic catalysts.

Overall, Lin Louie has a comprehensive background in chemical engineering, with experience in process development, scale-up, downstream processing, biomass upgrading, catalyst design, and environmentally sustainable technologies.

Lin Louie attended The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art from 2006 to 2010, where they earned a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.

Following that, they pursued higher education at the University of California, Berkeley from 2011 to 2017. During this time, they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
