Sylvaine Cases has worked in a variety of roles in the biotech industry since 1995. Sylvaine started their career as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Gladstone Institute/UCSF, where they identified enzyme targets in metabolic diseases and created genetic mouse models to define physiological roles of lipid synthesis enzymes. In 1999, they became a Staff Research Scientist at the Gladstone Institutes/UCSF. From 2007 to 2009, they worked as a Senior Group Leader in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics at Cytokinetics, and then as Director, Head of Pharmacology at Arete Therapeutics. In 2010, they joined Sanofi as Senior Director of Global Business Development and Head of External Science & Partnering, US West. In this role, they built a deep network of external collaborators, identified and evaluated innovative opportunities, and helped drive partnering deals with academic institutions, biotech companies, and non-profit organizations. From 2017 to 2021, they worked at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson as Vice President of Oncology Strategic Partnering. Most recently, they have been working as Chief Business Officer at Lynx Biosciences, Inc., and as Chief Operating & Business Officer at a VC-backed Stealth IO biotech. Sylvaine has also been an Independent Business Development Consultant & Interim CBO since 2021.

Sylvaine Cases began their educational journey in 1986 when they obtained their MS in Bioengineering from the Institut national agronomique Paris-Grignon. Sylvaine then went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Molecular Oncology at Institut Gustave Roussy / University Paris Diderot, which they completed in 1993. From 1995 to 1999, they attended the University of California, San Francisco, though it is unclear what degree they were pursuing.
