Karen Meersmans

Karen Meersmans is a Data Management Engineer at LynxCare. Karen has also worked as a Doctoral Researcher at KU Leuven and as a Communicatiemedewerker at Keolis.

Karen's research investigates how semantic processing is affected by word concreteness (i.e. abstract words, such as 'idea' vs. concrete words, such as 'dog') and word valence (i.e. positive words, such as 'love' vs. negative words, such as 'murder'). Her work includes neuroimaging research and behavioural experiments in healthy volunteers and patients with neurodegenerative conditions.

As a Communicatiemedewerker, Karen was responsible for internal and external communications, including the publication of the company newsletter, management of online channels (website, intranet), and the development and implementation of poster campaigns.

Karen Meersmans has a great distinction in Master Linguistics from Vrije Universiteit Brussel, with an elective module in Neurolinguistics. Karen also has a Bachelor in Literature and Linguistics: Dutch-English from Ghent University.
