Megan Beckett

Megan Beckett is a Data Analyst within the Machine Learning Operations team at Macro-Eyes. Megan thrives, and finds she can add the most value, when she can be both scientifically creative, and creatively scientific. A culmination of her experiences in research, instructional design, educational technology and consultancy has given her exposure to a wide range of data challenges to solve.

After graduating with a MSc in Molecular Biology at the University of Cape Town, Megan started volunteering and then working full time for an educational technology startup, providing adaptive, accessible learning experiences in low resource environments in South Africa and Africa. This is where Megan developed her data and coding skills, an appreciation for the full development cycle and a compassion for the end user. Megan went on to work in data science consultancy, running a wide range of projects in diverse fields, from startups to NGOs to corporate institutions, always with the common goal of making their data work for them.

More broadly, Megan is active within the global open movement, specifically around open access and open education. She helped found and organises the local R-Ladies Cape Town chapter to promote gender inclusivity in the R community, and create a fun and safe space for learning and sharing.
