Chinmay Khandekar

Lead Diffractive Optics Engineer at Magic Leap

Chinmay Khandekar is currently the Lead Diffractive Optics Engineer at Magic Leap since August 2021, focusing on software development for cloud-accelerated modeling of augmented reality displays and designing innovative waveguide architectures, along with contributions to color correction and metrology algorithms. Prior to this role, Khandekar was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Stanford University, where a novel technology for direct infrared thermal vision was conceptualized. As a Lillian Gilbreth Postdoctoral Fellow at Purdue University, Khandekar invented a reconfigurable mechanism for circularly polarized light and discovered new thermal radiation laws. Research Assistant experience at Princeton University included theoretical modeling in Nonlinear Thermal Photonics and advancements in thermal memory devices. Earlier internships at the Max Planck Institute and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research centered on attosecond imaging techniques and quantum computing applications, respectively. Khandekar holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and a B.Tech in Engineering Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
