Eben Estell, PhD, is a Staff Scientist at the MaineHealth Institute for Research since January 2019, leading an NIH K01-funded independent research program focused on the role of irisin in musculoskeletal adaptation to exercise and mechanical loading. Prior to this, Eben served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, completing an NIH F32-funded project on osteoclast differentiation influenced by irisin. Eben's academic journey includes a PhD, MS, and MPh in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University, where dissertation research explored mechanotransduction in synovial joints and its impact on osteoarthritis. Early research experience includes an Undergraduate Research Assistant position at the Cellular Mechanics Laboratory at the University of Maine, focusing on neuronal migration and axon formation influenced by engineered stiffness gradients and adhesive ligand density.
