Jeff Agosta

System Engineer at Mainline Information Systems, Inc.

Jeff Agosta has over 20 years of experience in various roles within the field of DB2 database support and systems engineering. Jeff started their career as a Programmer/Analyst at Bath Iron Works in 1987, where they were responsible for the maintenance and development of new and existing systems. Jeff then moved on to Sikorsky Aircraft in 1991, where they were a Programmer/Analyst and supported system modifications and implementations.

In 1992, they joined Bath Iron Works, Inc as a Senior Programmer/Analyst, where they supported the implementation of an MRP system and tuned and monitored large batch IMS/DLI job streams. Jeff continued their work at Bath Iron Works as a Data Base Administrator/Senior DBA from 1993 to 1996, where they were responsible for tuning, monitoring, production support, maintenance, and reorganizations of DB2 databases. Jeff also developed and executed upgrade plans in conjunction with Technical Support staff.

From 1996 to 1999, Jeff worked as a Lead DB2 Database Administrator at Computer Sciences Corporation, Technology Management Group, where they provided DBA support across various client sites and also provided system architecture support.

In 1999, they joined Duke University Medical Center as a Lead DB2 Database Administrator/DB2 Systems Programmer, where they provided all aspects of application and system DB2 DBA support in a 24 * 7 environment. Jeff planned and implemented upgrades and maintenance of DB2 z/OS and peripheral software.

From 2012 to 2013, Jeff worked at the University of North Carolina Health Care as a Senior DB2 DBA/DB2 Systems Programmer, where they provided DB2 database support for large DB2 data sharing data warehouse and OLTP environments.

In 2013, they joined First Citizens Bank as a Systems Engineer Consultant, where they provided DB2 database support for a ground-up implementation of DB2 z/OS. Jeff also built and maintained dashboards using Excel/ODBC, providing historical and statistical data of various RDBMSs.

From 2015 to 2020, Jeff worked at IBM/MetLife as a Lead TRICARE z/OS DB2 DBA/System Engineer, where they provided production DB2 database support in a large DB2 z/OS complex data-sharing environment. Jeff also created and maintained processes to aid in personnel and CPU efficiency using REXX execs, SQL, Native Stored Procedures, and Excel.

Since 2019, Jeff has been working at Mainline Information Systems as a System Engineer, where they provide DB2 Systems Engineering and DBA support for multiple clients with various Db2 versions.

Throughout their career, Jeff has gained experience in SMP/e DB2 maintenance, troubleshooting, tuning, writing REXX routines, creating and maintaining dashboards for performance, capacity, health checking, and more. Jeff has also gained expertise in supporting implementation of DB2 z/OS products, setting standards, disaster recovery, and training junior/new team members.

Jeff Agosta started their education at Spaulding High School, where they obtained a high school diploma between 1971 and 1975. After high school, they attended the University of Maine from 1979 to 1980, studying English and Math. In 1985, Jeff pursued further education at New Hampshire College, specializing in Computer Sciences and earning an AS degree in 1987. Jeff then enrolled at Sacred Heart University in 1991, studying Computer Sciences until 1992. In addition to their formal education, Jeff also holds a certification as an IBM Certified Database Administrator for DB2 UDB V8.1 Family and DB2 UDB V8.1 z/OS, although the institution and year of obtaining the certification are not provided.
