Investment Manager at Mairs and Power

In her role with the firm, Michelle conducts extensive due diligence on an array of multi-cap holdings in a variety of industries by interacting with sell-side analysts, examining company filings/presentations, attending investment conferences and trade shows, as well as interviewing management teams, customers, suppliers, and competitors. She creates Durable Competitive Advantages analysis according to Porter's 5 Forces on each company under coverage in order to grade its current competitive position, assess the sustainability of its competitive advantage, and determine the direction of its competitive advantage going forward. She advises portfolio managers on the relative attractiveness of individual equities and presents buy/sell recommendations to the Investment Committee on a bi-monthly basis.

Michelle began her career at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange as a market observer. Her first job there was to communicate bids, offers, and trades in the open outcry futures and options pits using hand signals. Prior to joining Mairs & Power, she was a Vice President and Research Analyst at Leuthold Group, LLC where she had worked since 2002 and had also served as head trader and a performance analyst.

Michelle earned both her BA in finance and MBA from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is a CFA charterholder as well as a Certificate in Investment Performance Measurement (CIPM) certificate holder.
