Matt Joens

Matt joined MākuSafe® in June of 2019 with 11 years of professional experience. Three of which in Safety/Loss Control for a heavy highway/bridge building company based in Des Moines and then eight years of experience in the world of 3rd party recruiting where he served as a Sr. Account Executive focusing on building relationships with manufacturers across the state of Iowa. Matt is also a Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS).

During his time in the safety world, he spearheaded a partnership with federal OSHA and the general contractor on a $40MM, Interstate 80 bridge project in western Iowa. With loss control being his primary focus, he developed relationships with project superintendents, foremen and laborers to ensure site safety remained a top priority and provided training to laborers and operators. He was also able to obtain his OSHA 10hr and OSHA 30hr certifications as well as a tower rescue certification.

Matt was born and raised in central Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Industrial Technology.

In his spare time Matt enjoys anything outdoors including: biking, water skiing, wakeboarding, snowboarding and hunting. Matt has been married to his wife, Katie, since 2010 and is the proud father to one daughter (Skylar) and one son (Nolan).
