Bill McLean

Bill (William) McLean, MA, LLB, is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in transactional law and strategic business advisory roles. Currently serving as Managing Director and Assistant Chief Counsel at Manulife since December 2020, Bill leads teams in energy and infrastructure acquisitions across multiple regions, including the US, Asia, Canada, and Australia. Bill has successfully navigated various legal roles, including as an entrepreneur and lawyer in Canada and Hong Kong, and has contributed to firms such as BMO Financial Group and Slaughter and May. An equity partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP for over a decade, Bill focused on infrastructure projects and mergers in energy and manufacturing. Bill’s earlier roles include serving as Special Policy Advisor to the CEO of the Ontario Financing Authority and articling at Abitibi Consolidated. Bill holds an LLB from Dalhousie University, a Master of Arts from the University of Waterloo, and a BA (Hons) from McMaster University.
