Mike McMurtry is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in maritime incident management and environmental protection. Currently serving as the Principal Advisor for Maritime Incident Strategy & Systems at Maritime New Zealand since February 2016, Mike specializes in emergency response and oil spill management, often acting as the National On-Scene Commander. Previously, Mike held various roles at Auckland Council from 2003 to 2016, including Principal Environmental Specialist and Senior Environmental Specialist, focusing on environmental monitoring programs and managing a team of Environmental Specialists. Prior to this, Mike worked as an Avionics Engineer at Air New Zealand from 1986 to 1994. Mike holds a Master of Science degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from The University of Auckland.
