Onsite Safety Coordinator

Job description

An Onsite Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing professional administrative and safety
support to their superintendent and the crew members on their assigned project(s). They should
have a high stress tolerance, be self-regulating, possess both reliability and consistency, be able
to learn and problem solve well, be able to multi-task, and have excellent organizational and
communication skills. Candidates should have excellent customer service & leadership skills, a
positive attitude, ability to work in teams, and must be outcome oriented. The ability to work in a
fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail is essential.

  • Ensure the safety of all employees, subcontractors, and vendors of Martin Concrete to the
    best of your ability and keep injuries at a minimum on your project.

  • Perform weekly documented safety inspections of the jobsites. Therefore, ensuring Martin
    Concrete stays in compliance with their safety policies and OSHA standards. Inspections
    are to be submitted via email to the safety department every Friday afternoon. All serious
    violations discovered must be communicated with your assigned Safety Operations
    Manager immediately. Visual jobsite safety inspections must be performed continuously
    each day.

  • Communicate and work efficiently and professionally with your superintendent, Safety
    Operations Manager, and other Martin Concrete internal project employees.

  • Ensure the project(s) assigned to you follows all of OSHA and Martin Concrete Safety
    Policies and standards. Assist and communicate with the Safety Operations Manager with
    the development or safety needs or training needs of your projects crew members and
    superintendents.

  • Complete all safety documentation and ensure all documents are completed, correct, up
    to date and organized.

  • Submit any requested safety documents and Site-Specific Safety Plans to the general
    contractor per their direction at the beginning on a project. A copy must be kept for our
    records in the tool trailer and/or onsite office where it is accessible to all employees at all
    times.

  • Communicate with Martin Concrete’s Superintendent, Safety Operations Manager, the
    project’s general contractor on any necessary meetings that pertain to safety. Attendance
    may be necessary.

  • Report any safety concerns between Martin Concrete and the General Contractor to your
    designated Safety Operations Manager.

  • Possess a complete understanding of the Martin Concrete Corporate Safety Program and
    demonstrate the capability as one of the projects competent persons.

  • Enforce that all Martin Concrete subcontractors and vendors are in compliance with
    OSHA and Martin Safety Policies and violations are corrected and documented.

  • Ensure that all employees and subcontractors are in compliance with Martin Concrete’s
    PPE and Image Standards. If additional PPE is required, it is the safety officer’s
    responsibility to coordinate the needs with the safety department.

  • Assist Superintendent with conducting weekly “Toolbox Talks”, morning Stretch and Flex,
    and daily JSA meetings.

  • Keep stock of safety materials/tools/ supplies that may be needed. Report to
    Superintendent or Safety Operations Manager any items that may need to be replaced of
    large quantity.

  • Report to your designated Safety Operations Manager any injuries. In addition, complete
    all necessary paperwork and medical attention for injuries. All documents must be
    submitted within 24 hours of injury to the safety department.

  • Report to your designated Safety Operations Manager any equipment damages and/or
    thefts. In addition, complete all necessary paperwork or protocols for the incident. All
    documents must be submitted within 24 hours of the incident to the safety department.

  • Provide general administrative and clerical support including mailing, scanning, filing, and
    copying.

  • Assist in resolving any administrative problems (i.e. payroll or time keeping issues)

  • Answer calls from customers and/or team members regarding their safety inquiries.

  • Maintain office supplies and ensure that tool trailers, office, and projects housekeeping,
    and image standards are maintained at all times.

  • Maintain onsite employee training records and proactively schedule classes needed with
    the designated Safety Operations Manager.

  • Assist in resolving and reporting all employee safety concerns.

  • Maintain an up-to-date site-specific safety books and job box. This included but not limited
    to SDS sheets for all chemicals on the project.

  • Ensure that all boxes have a surplus of blank safety forms that may be needed.

  • Attend all assigned meetings and training sessions. This may include but not limited to
    Onsite Safety Coordinator Training, Kick-Off Meetings, etc.

  • Assist safety department in creating ways to continuously improve the company safety
    culture. Brainstorming and team idea sharing to create new and exciting ways to promote
    company safety.

  • Must be a competent person onsite. This meaning all safety officers must possess the
    knowledge to recognize and unsafe work and authority to stop and correct the unsafe act.

This position reports directly to their Superintendent and have a dotted line of responsibility to
the Safety Operations Manager.

Minimum Requirements
 Administrative experience in a corporate setting.
 Detailed oriented with good analytical skills a must.
 Must be computer savvy and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
 Ability to write, speak, and interact clearly and professionally.
 Extremely organized. Strong multi-tasking and time-management skills.
 Can handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 The ability to work well in a collaborative team environment
