Mary L. Washington

Mary L. Washington, Ph.D., is an established academic and consultant with extensive experience in education, research, and community engagement. Since August 2005, Washington has worked with Socialpreneur Education, focusing on strategy and operations consultancy while also serving as an adjunct faculty member at the Maryland Institute College of Art since 2012, teaching courses in humanistic studies. In addition, Washington has held significant political roles as a member of the Maryland General Assembly since 2011, representing the 43rd District. Previous positions include leadership roles at the Parks & People Foundation, the Baltimore Neighborhood Indicators Alliance, and the Housing Authority of Baltimore City, as well as an academic position at Lehigh University. Washington holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Population Statistics from The Johns Hopkins University and has developed expertise in critical social issues including poverty, homelessness, and community development.
