Alea Surender has extensive work experience in various roles and organizations. Alea currently serves as the Director of Public Health Services at the Mattie Rhodes Center, a position they have held since October 2021. Earlier in their career, Alea worked as a Childcare Worker at Unity Church of Lawrence from October 2016 to September 2017.

Alea Surender completed their high school education at Wichita High School East from 2011 to 2015. Alea then pursued a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Community Health at The University of Kansas from 2015 to 2019. Currently, they are attending The University of Kansas Medical Center from 2022 to 2024, working towards a Master of Public Health degree with a focus on Public Health.

Our staff provides culturally competent programming in the following four areas: Family Services (behavioral health, family violence, substance abuse) Youth Services (in-school intervention, youth development, supportive living) Community Support (health and wellness, community engagement) Cultural Arts (arts education, exhibits and collections)
