James Allocca has a comprehensive work experience in the field of art direction, spanning over four decades. James started as an Art Assistant at The East Side Weekly in 1980, where they gained experience in ad graphics and court sketch art. James then worked as an Assistant Art Director at Lexington Library, responsible for design and layout in sports and entertainment magazines. In 1983, they became an Assistant Art Director at Us Weekly, focusing on design, layout, photo shoots, and illustration. Moving forward, they served as an Art Director at Modern Periodicals, where they managed automotive, hunting, fishing, and sports magazines, as well as promotional items. In 1989, they joined Harris Publications as an Art Director, overseeing various titles covering subjects like entertainment, automotive, sports, firearms, and hunting. James worked directly with ownership to discuss the overall look of each publication. In 2016, they joined AMG/PARADE as an Art Director, working on firearms, hunting, self-defense, survival, and other special-interest publications. Currently, they hold the position of Art Director at The Arena Group, continuing their expertise in publications related to firearms and special interests. Throughout their career, they have utilized software such as In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Word, Acrobat, and Virtual Publisher on a daily basis.
James Allocca attended the School of Visual Arts from 1975 to 1979. During this time, they pursued a Bachelor of Media Arts with a focus on Design/Illustration. James later enrolled at The New School from 1989 to 1990, where they studied Computer Arts.
