Thong Chee Hoong

Thong Chee Hoong has extensive work experience in the telecommunications industry. Thong started their career at Avon Cosmetics as an Analyst Programmer from 1999 to 2001. Thong then joined Mesiniaga Berhad as a Security Engineer, where they were responsible for security infrastructures, compliance, risk management, and disaster recovery planning for Petronas Group Information Resources Management.

In 2004, they joined Alcatel-Lucent as a Solutions Consultant, specializing in network, system, security, and wireless applications. Thong later took on roles as a Technical Manager and E2E Architecture & Solution Manager for the Packet One WiMAX Project. At Alcatel-Lucent, they were involved in pre- and post-sales support, project management, and solution design.

In 2010, Thong Chee Hoong joined Packet One Networks (P1) as Head of Product Engineering, leading product and device development, business process improvement, and network architecture. Thong also served as Head of Technology Strategy, representing P1 in industry working groups.

From 2012 to present, Thong Chee Hoong has been working at Maxis, where they initially served as a Technology Development Senior Specialist, responsible for the research, development, and launch of new technologies such as 4G, 5G, IoT, and Telco Cloud. Thong then took on the role of Head of Core Network, Network Support System & Device Strategy, leading a team in technology strategy, roadmap, security, and architecture for Maxis' core network and service platform.

Throughout their career, Thong Chee Hoong has demonstrated expertise in technology strategy, architecture, development, and project management in the telecommunications sector.

Thong Chee Hoong has a Master of Science in Computer Science with a focus on Distributed Computing from Universiti Putra Malaysia, which they completed from 2000 to 2001. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honour) in Mathematics from the same university, from 1996 to 1999. Thong completed their STPM/A-level qualifications in Physics, Maths, Advance Maths, Chemistry, and General Studies at Sekolah Menengah Sri Kampar from 1994 to 1995. Thong began their education in the science stream at Sekolah Menengah Methodist (ACS) Kampar from 1989 to 1993. Additionally, Thong Chee Hoong obtained a Data Science Specialization certification from Coursera Course Certificates in 2016.
