Kristian Schafernak

Kristian Schafernak currently serves as the Interim Chair of the Department of Pathology and an Associate Professor of Child Health and Pathology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix since March 2019. Concurrently, Kristian holds the position of Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology at Creighton University School of Medicine, and has been an Assistant Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic since August 2016. Kristian's extensive expertise in hematopathology is demonstrated through a role as Staff Pathologist/Hematopathology Subspecialist at Phoenix Children's Hospital. Previous appointments include Assistant Professor in Pathology at Northwestern University and Director of Hematology and Hematopathology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago. Kristian holds a Doctor of Medicine from Rush University, a Master of Public Health from Boston University, and multiple degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, as well as extensive training and fellowships in pathology and hematopathology from Northwestern University.
