Mayvenn was founded in 2013 by Diishan Imira, a former English teacher who later went on to become a consultant at Ernst & Young and the CEO of Imira, Inc. The company was created as a solution to the lack of available hair extensions for Black women, who often have difficulty finding products that match their hair texture. Mayvenn provides a platform for stylists to sell hair extensions directly to their clients, cutting out the middleman and ensuring that the products are of high quality. The company has raised over $12 million in funding from investors such as 500 Startups and Andreessen Horowitz.
