Laura Sanman has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and companies. Laura started their career as an undergraduate researcher in biochemistry at The Ohio State University, where they conducted kinetic assessments of nucleotide incorporation by DNA repair and lesion bypass polymerases. Laura then interned as a surfactant process development intern at Procter & Gamble.
Laura later joined BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. as a clinical regulatory affairs intern, where they wrote FDA/EMA orphan drug designation applications and supported IND/CTA filings for lysosomal storage disease enzyme replacement therapy.
Afterwards, Laura pursued their Ph.D. at Stanford University in Chemical and Systems Biology. Their research focused on applying chemical tools to identify modulators of inflammasome formation and cell death in macrophages. Additionally, they synthesized activity-based probes to discover and characterize protease activity in various diseases. Laura was supported by an AHA Predoctoral Fellowship and NSF GRFP during their Ph.D. studies and also served as a SPARK at Stanford Student Investigator.
Laura then worked as a consultant at Aria Pharmaceuticals before joining the University of California, San Francisco as a postdoctoral scholar. Their postdoctoral research involved quantitative imaging of intestinal organoids to understand stem cell fate decisions and was supported by an NIH (NIDDK) F32 Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Laura then transitioned to Surrozen as a scientist, initially as a Scientist II in Discovery Biology, and later promoted to Senior Scientist in the same department. During their time at Surrozen, Laura contributed to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics.
Most recently, Laura joined Maze Therapeutics as a Senior Scientist I in New Target Biology. Laura continues to apply their expertise in drug discovery to identify and evaluate new therapeutic targets.
Overall, Laura Sanman's work experience demonstrates a strong background in research, drug development, and scientific investigation across academia, pharmaceutical companies, and biotechnology startups.
Laura Sanman earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from The Ohio State University, where they studied from 2007 to 2011. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a PhD in Chemical and Systems Biology at Stanford University from 2011 to 2016.
