Maarten Hoek has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies. Maarten is currently the Vice President - Head of Biology at Maze Therapeutics, a role they began in March 2022. Prior to this, they held the position of Senior Director at Maze Therapeutics from February 2019 to March 2022.

Before joining Maze Therapeutics, Maarten worked at Third Rock Ventures from May 2018 to February 2019 as a Senior Director, where they played a crucial role in driving the launch of Maze Therapeutics. Maarten contributed to the development of the integrated human genetics and functional genomics platform and initiated drug discovery activities.

Earlier in their career, Maarten spent a significant amount of time at Merck, starting as a Senior Research Biologist from May 2007 to May 2009. Maarten then transitioned into the role of Associate Principal Scientist from July 2012 to June 2015 and later became a Principal Scientist from June 2015 to January 2017. Lastly, they served as Director from February 2017 to May 2018.

Maarten's professional journey started at Rockefeller University, where they worked as a Research Assistant in the Fred Cross Lab from July 1992 to July 1994. Maarten then pursued their postdoctoral fellowship at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, specifically in the Stillman Lab, from May 2000 to June 2007.
