Council Makhase Gumede has a strong background in safety management. Council Makhase started their career as a Safety Officer at Douglas Colliery in 2001 and was responsible for accident and incident investigations, inspecting work areas and processes, and conducting audits for legal compliance. Council Makhase then moved on to BHP Billiton in 2005, where they served as a Chief Safety Officer.
