Nicolas Barrera Bateman

Nicolas Barrera Bateman is an experienced energy systems designer specializing in utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, currently serving as Energy Systems Designer II at McCalmont Engineering since August 2025. With a strong foundation in engineering, Nicolas co-founded Say What? Home Tutoring in September 2014, providing customized educational classes led by college students. Previously, Nicolas held positions as PV Design Engineer and Solar + Energy Storage Specialist at Freedom Forever, where over 300 projects were completed, and as Solar Site Specialist at GRID Alternatives. Additionally, Nicolas co-founded and served as CEO of Gea Energy SAS, a renewable energy company in Colombia, and worked as Project Engineer at HL INGENIEROS SA early in the career. Nicolas holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes, earned from 2008 to 2013.
