Jim Garnevicus

Area Manager, SF & Peninsula at McGuire and Hester

Jim knew that he wanted an active career that offered variety and opportunity from an early age. For that reason, he chose to study Civil Engineering in college. As a summer intern, Jim started his career in construction with Judlau Contracting, a prominent east coast heavy civil contractor specializing in large public works projects. Upon graduation, he accepted a full-time position as a Cost Engineer and would soon receive promotions to Project Engineer and then Assistant Superintendent. After six years with the company, Jim took a job with Skanska USA, which eventually required relocation to Los Angeles.

Over the next four years, Jim continued to build his estimating and operations skills and helped manage many high-profile projects. In 2017 Jim made the decision to move to the Bay Area to be near family. While jogging, he ran past our Lake Merritt revitalization project and looked us up. He was impressed with the culture and values of McGuire and Hester and after coming in for an interview was hired as a Project Manager. Since then, Jim has helped lead many of our most successful and high-profile projects, including multiple projects at the Presidio, such as Tunnel Tops.

In 2022 Jim was selected as the new Area Manager for the San Francisco and adjacent peninsula projects. His dedication to self and team improvement will help advance McGuire and Hester as we live up to our motto.
