Beasley's early career included serving as a Communications Fellow in the Governor's Office for North Carolina's first female governor, Gov. Bev Perdue. In this role, they researched and reported on various issues, such as digital learning and early childhood education.

Joseph Beasley, MPA, attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2013 to 2015, where they obtained a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree. Prior to that, from 2008 to 2012, they attended North Carolina State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Political Science with a minor in Spanish.
