Preston Bryant has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Preston served as the Senior Vice President at McGuireWoods Consulting, responsible for infrastructure and economic development. Prior to that, they were the Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission, overseeing federal lands and buildings in the National Capital Region. Preston also held the position of Secretary of Natural Resources in the cabinet of Governor Timothy M. Kaine for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Additionally, Bryant was a member of the House of Delegates for the City of Lynchburg and Amherst County and worked as a Partner and Vice President at Hurt & Proffitt, Inc., a civil engineering and planning firm.

Preston Bryant has a rich educational background. In 1982, they began their undergraduate studies at Randolph-Macon College, where they pursued a Bachelor of Arts in English. From 1987 to 1988, they continued their education at the University of Richmond, earning a Master of Arts degree in Humanities. Following this, they attended Royal Holloway, University of London from 1989 to 1990, where they focused on Modern British Literature and obtained a Master of Arts degree. In addition to their academic achievements, Preston obtained certification as a mediator from the Supreme Court of Virginia in November 2016.
