Salman Ahmad

Salman Ahmad is a senior partner at McKinsey and leads the work in Pakistan, where he advises government institutions and major companies on their key challenges.

Salman brings deep expertise in the telecommunications sector. For example, he developed the investment strategy of a leading Middle Eastern provider, and helped a South Asian integrated incumbent turn around its performance. He also helped an international telco set up performance measurement and controls for a portfolio of assets spanning 15 countries and over 20 million subscribers.

In the public sector, Salman’s work includes helping a Gulf country evaluate the development of a special economic zone; conducting strategic and financial due diligence for the launch of a mercantile exchange in Dubai; and helping the telecommunications regulator in a Gulf country liberalise its market.

Salman also has deep experience in the financial services sector. He supported a UK bank in assessing the potential for a joint venture with global partners; helped an integrated US insurer consider divesting its life insurance business; and set up value-based management and evaluated the investment business of large multinational life insurer.

Salman has also advised several leading conglomerates. He helped a large diversified conglomerate restructure its chemical asset portfolio, and developed a portfolio strategy for a family-owned conglomerate seeking to grow and transition to a second-generation business.

Before moving to the Middle East in 2006, Salman was part of the Corporate Finance Practice based in New York, where he advised financial institutions, industrial and technology companies on mergers, acquisitions and alliances.
