Chris Smith

Chris spent three years as an undergraduate fellowship student at the MDI Biological Laboratory before joining the lab as an employee in 1999, as the supervisor of the DNA and Gene Expression Core Facility.

The focus of Chris’ work shifted toward research training with the beginning of the NIH/NIGMS IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) program, an expanded offering of courses and conferences, and the construction of more education-specific laboratory space on campus. She became the Director of Courses, Conferences, and Evaluation in early 2020, with the goal of building further research training efforts for scientific learners at all levels.

Chris welcomes the opportunity to work both with longstanding members of the extended MDI Biological Laboratory community as well as new partners and program alumni.
