John Colbourne

Adjunct Professor at MDI Biological Laboratory

John Colbourne is an experienced professional in environmental research and toxicology, currently serving as Director at the Centre for Environmental Research and Justice (CERJ) since December 2022. In addition to this role, John is the Principal Investigator and Project Coordinator at PrecisionTox, focusing on advancing chemical safety assessment since February 2021. John holds the position of Professor and Chair of Environmental Genomics at the University of Birmingham, where research encompasses evolutionary ecology and genomics. As a co-founder of both Michabo Health Science and Environment Care Consortium, John contributes to initiatives aimed at assessing health risks from chemical exposure and ensuring a safe environment. Additionally, John maintains an adjunct professorship at the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory and has held various research positions, including Genomics Director at Indiana University Bloomington and Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Oregon. John earned a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Guelph and a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Toronto.
