Patty Brown-Barnett

The Rev. Dr. Patty Brown-Barnett is the Chaplain at Meadowlark. Patty is responsible for weekly worship leadership, on Sundays and Wednesdays, as well as pastoral care for residents and staff.

Patty joined the team at Meadowlark in November 2013. She attended a variety of educational institutions and holds four degrees, including the following: a bachelor of general studies degree from the University of Maryland (College Park); a master of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary; an associate of arts and sciences degree in sign language interpreting from the Community College of Philadelphia; and a doctor of ministry degree from McCormick Theological Seminary.

After graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary, Patty served as a Sign Language interpreter in a variety of settings, and continued interpreting from time to time following ordination as a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Before coming to Meadowlark as Chaplain, Patty served in twenty-one positions as an Interim Pastor, in four different denominations, including campus ministry (twice) at Kansas State University. She also served as Hospice Chaplain for Homecare & Hospice of Manhattan for more than three years while serving in part-time congregational positions.

Since moving to Manhattan in 1991, Patty has been a member of the Manhattan Ministerial Association. She has also been affiliated with two musical groups in town: Flint Hills Flutes and Roots of Rhythm (a drumming group), which is an outreach of the Wonder Workshop Museum for Children. Patty is also a part of the Network of Biblical Storytellers, International.

Originally from suburban Maryland, Patty moved to Manhattan, Kan. 25 years ago after living in both Topeka and Lawrence for several years. She and her husband, Mark Brown-Barnett, have been married for 25 years. They have a blended family with four children and a dog.
