Chris Matthews

Chris Matthews serves as the Division Director for Nature Preserves and Natural Resources at Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, a role held since October 2009, where responsibilities include managing the Nature Preserves Division and overseeing environmental education, outdoor recreation, and natural resources. Previously, Chris held the position of Natural Resources Manager, leading a team that managed 26 nature preserves. Prior experience includes serving as a Sr. Project Manager and Vice President at HDR, where Chris managed environmental service projects, business development, and regulatory compliance, as well as holding various roles in environmental science. Educational credentials include a Master’s degree in Ecology and Conservation Biology from Frostburg State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
