J. Scott Osborne

Osborne currently serves as a consultant for faculty and post-doctoral fellows at various universities and medical schools throughout the U.S. He is a highly renowned expert in the field of epidemiology biomedical research.

Dr. Osborne served as a Health Scientist Administrator, Scientific Review Officer for Epidemiology Scientific Review Groups at the National Institutes of Health for 22 years. His duties included full responsibility for all aspects of assessing the scientific merit of over 6,700 research applications requesting over $5.5 billion in support, and selecting and training members of Congressionally chartered Scientific Review Groups (SRGs) and Special Emphasis Panels (SEPs). While at the NIH, Dr. Osborne was awarded Full Tenure.

Other positions held by Dr. Osborne include Director of Research, Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine, and the University of Michigan School of Medicine at Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo Campus.

Dr. Osborne received a BA (anthropology, chemistry) from the University of Miami, a MA (physical and medical anthropology) from Florida Atlantic University, a PhD (medical anthropology, epidemiology) from Michigan State University, and a MPH (epidemiology, biostatistics) from the University of North Carolina. He also completed a NIH Post-Doctoral Fellowship in epidemiology.

He has received numerous awards and recognition, including a Lifetime Achievement Award, Epidemiology and Disease Control Scientific Review Group, NIH. He is a member of the American College of Epidemiology, the American Public Health Association, the Council on Epidemiology and Prevention, the American Heart Association, and the Society for Epidemiologic Research.
