Chi-Tak is the Chief Technology Officer at MEG Energy. With over 33 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, he has been a leader in thermal development. Since joining MEG in 2004 he has held roles of increasing responsibility with the Company, with oversight for reservoir management and project development, facility operations, cost leadership, and technological development and application. Chi-Tak was promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2018 and in 2021 became MEG’s Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining MEG, he held technical engineering and leadership roles with Petro Canada and Imperial Oil. Early in his career, He studied under and worked with the late Dr. Roger Butler at the Underground Test Facility (UTF), where he provided reservoir and production engineering leadership in the first successful field demonstration of the steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) process in the Athabasca region using surface drilled horizontal well pairs. Chi-Tak holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering from the University of Calgary, and is a registered professional engineer in Alberta.
