Neil Swainston

Director of Computational Biology at Mellizyme Biotechnology

Neil Swainston has worked in a variety of roles over the past 25 years. Neil began their career in 1994 as an Intern at Dow. In 1996 they became a Web Developer at the British Council. In 1998, they were a Graduate Trainee at AstraZeneca, a Bioinformatics Researcher at IRISA - Institut de Recherche en Informatique et Systèmes Aléatoires, and a Bioinformatics Team Manager at Waters Corporation. In 2006, they became a Senior Research Associate at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology. In 2017, they were Managing Director at GeneGenie Bioinformatics. In 2019, they became a Senior Research Associate at the University of Liverpool, and in 2020 they became Director of Computational Biology and Senior Computational Biologist at Epoch Biodesign.

Neil Swainston received their Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Industrial Experience from The University of Manchester in 1996. Neil then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Computer Science at Newcastle University, which they completed in 1998. Finally, Neil Swainston earned their Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from The University of Manchester in 2012.
