Manager Of Strategic Initiatives And Planning at Mellon Foundation

Michael Gossett is the manager of strategic initiatives and planning for the Public Knowledge program. In this role, he assists the program officer in developing grantmaking strategies to support the creation and preservation of the cultural record.

He joined Public Knowledge in 2017, most recently serving as its senior program associate, where he developed grant proposals and managed a portfolio of grants in digital preservation, web archiving, and digital monograph publishing. From 2013 to 2017, he served in a variety of grants management and data management positions with the Foundation's operations team.

Mr. Gossett is currently an incubator member at NEW INC, the New Museum's cultural incubator for people working at the intersection of art, design, and technology. He is also pursuing an MA in digital humanities at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York. His research practice explores how bottom-up and collective forms of data stewardship—such as data trusts—can support artists and writers in the creation and placement of their archives.
