Josh Smith, MD, PhD, serves as an Associate Member and Associate Attending Surgeon in the Colorectal Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center since May 2014, with a clinical focus on rectal and colon cancers, utilizing both minimally invasive and open surgical techniques. Smith is experienced in preserving bowel, bladder, and sexual function in rectal cancer patients and in treating colorectal liver metastases in collaboration with the Hepatopancreatobiliary Service. Prior to this role, Smith completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering, participating in complex surgical oncology rotations and contributing to research initiatives. Smith also held the position of Chief Resident in General Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where training included both clinical and research components leading to a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology. Educational qualifications include an MD from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and a BSE in Health Sciences from Baylor University.
