Catherine Atieno

Gender and Social Inclusion Consultant at Mennonite Economic Development Associates

Catherine Atieno has extensive experience in the field of gender and social inclusion. Catherine most recently worked as a Gender and Social Inclusion Consultant for MEDA, where they started in August 2020. Prior to that, they worked as a Gender Advisor for Afriqinsights from November 2019 to August 2021. Catherine also served as a Gender and Financial Inclusion Advisor for Financial Sector Deepening Uganda (FSD Uganda) from February 2018 to April 2020, where they conducted analysis and developed Gender Lens Guidelines for Financial Institutions. Before that, they worked as a Women's Economic Empowerment Specialist for UN Women in 2017, where they compiled best practices in women's economic empowerment and gender-sensitive financing in the African region. Catherine's other roles include being a Gender Mainstreaming Specialist for Adam Smith International from May 2016 to July 2017 and a Legal Advisor for Signifide Group from May 2014 to April 2017.

Catherine Atieno commenced their education in the field of law at Moi University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Laws degree from 2010 to 2014. Following this, they further enhanced their legal knowledge by attending the Kenya School of Law from 2016 to 2017, where they obtained the qualification of Trainee Advocate.
