Steve Cumming has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Steve has held various roles in different organizations, demonstrating their expertise in strategy, partnerships, program management, and team leadership.
Steve started their career at GOAL International in 2005 as an Area Supervisor, where they managed staff and coordinated with different stakeholders in a health and sanitation program. Steve then joined Mines Advisory Group (MAG) America as a Field Coordinator in 2007.
In the same year, Steve moved to the International Rescue Committee as a Field Coordinator, where they provided input to strategic planning, program design, budgeting, and staff management. Steve also managed grants for a primary health and nutrition program in a refugee camp.
Steve's experience in managing international programs continued at Youth Challenge International, where they served as an International Program Director. Steve oversaw a Global Youth Partnerships Program in East and West Africa, securing long-term funding from the Canadian government.
Steve's career progressed further when they joined the Mastercard Foundation. Steve held multiple roles, including Program Manager, Senior Program Manager, Associate Director of Programs, and Lead of Strategic Operations. In these positions, they played a key role in strategic planning, partnership development, program implementation, and team management. Steve led the design and implementation of the Rwanda Employment and Enterprise Development Initiative, a significant program with a $50M budget.
Before their current role at MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates) as the Director of Strategy & Planning, Steve worked at Blueprint as the Director of Programs and Partnerships. In this role, they led a team focused on partnership development, evaluation planning, and knowledge mobilization. Steve also identified and developed new partnerships with private and public sector partners, including leading a partnership with the Future Skills Centre.

Steve Cumming began their education at Queen's University in 1997, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 2001. Steve then attended Carleton University from 2002 to 2004, where they obtained a Master's degree in Social Work. Following this, they pursued further studies at the University of York from 2005 to 2006, completing a Master's degree in Politics, Post War Reconstruction and Development.
