Tom McCormack

Tom McCormack has a diverse and extensive work experience in the international development sector. Tom has held various roles in different organizations, starting in 1987 with the US Peace Corps as a Water and Sanitation Volunteer in Mali.

In 1993, McCormack worked as a Community Development Advisor at Visions in Action, where they assisted in the design and implementation of various projects, including beekeeping and food drying, in Burkina Faso.

From 1995 to 1996, they served as a Lecturer at the University of World Languages, leading a seminar on American history and politics in Kazakhstan.

McCormack then joined Mercy Corps International, where they held multiple positions. As a Project Manager in 1996, they managed the Shelter Construction Project in Rwanda and later became a Program Manager, overseeing sub-grants and redirecting programs in Kazakhstan.

In 1998, McCormack joined MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates) as a Country Program Director in Tajikistan, leading program unification efforts and introducing a cotton replacement strategy.

From 2001 to 2003, they served as Deputy Country Director at Save the Children, managing a complex office and overseeing private funding and sponsorship operations.

McCormack then worked as Acting Country Director in Malawi in 2003 and later became Sahel Country Director in Mali, Guinea, and Burkina Faso for Save the Children. In this role, they managed country operations through natural and manmade crises and guided strategic planning and fundraising efforts.

From 2014 to 2016, McCormack was the Regional Program Manager for East and Southern Africa at ChildFund International, responsible for overseeing programs in the region.

Tom'smost recent position was as the Country Project Manager at MEDA, where they managed projects and operations.

Throughout their career, McCormack has demonstrated strong leadership skills, program management expertise, and a commitment to the well-being and development of communities in various countries.

Tom McCormack received their Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln between 1981 and 1985. Tom studied Human Geography, German, and European History during this time. Later, from 1989 to 1992, they attended the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, where they earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a focus on International Public Administration.
