Jon Churchill

Prior to assuming his role as MENTOR’s Grants Manager, Jon Churchill enjoyed a distinguished career in education and nonprofit spaces. With The National Humanities Alliance, he co-conceptualized and co-produced the podcast “What Are You Going to Do With That?,” which advocates for the transferrable value of humanistic inquiry across disciplinary boundaries. As an educator, he taught music history and theory at Duke University, The Pennsylvania State University, and several public, independent, and nonprofit institutions.

Jon has also maintained an active performance career as an orchestral percussionist, chamber musician, and fixture in and around New York City’s musical theatre scene. As a member of the Invicta Marimba Duo, Norwalk Symphony, and New Haven Symphony, he has participated in outreach initiatives and delivered clinics throughout New England.

Jon holds the B.S. Music Education from Western Connecticut State University and M.A. Musicology from The Pennsylvania State University. Additional graduate work includes the A.M. Musicology and Ph.D. Musicology from Duke University. While a multiple fellow at Duke, Jon’s work appeared in domestic and international publications, serving specialist and general audiences alike.
