Mayowa Tomori has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. They started their career in 2015 as an Experience and Media Producer at the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco, where they were responsible for producing innovative digital and interactive projects. They also worked as a Camera Operator for the feature-length documentary "Night School" and as a Virtual Reality Producer (Contract) at NormalVR.
In 2017, Tomori joined Berrett-Koehler Publishers, Inc. as a Senior Product Manager, Digital & Editorial. They were responsible for organizing and leading product development for cross-functional hardware and software engineering teams, contributing to the organization's strategic direction. Some of their key accomplishments include generating significant revenue for BeBop Sensors with their flagship virtual reality/augmented reality glove, securing funding from investors, and leading product development for a smart shoe insole.
They also had roles at Code2040 as a Mentor in the CODE2040 Fellows Program, providing career guidance and support to Black and Latinx engineers, and at John McNeil Studio as an Interactive Producer. In 2021, they joined Instrument as a Senior Producer before joining Meow Wolf in 2023 as an Audio / Video / Lighting Production Manager.
Mayowa Tomori completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Journalism, with a Public Relations Concentration, at Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis from 2005 to 2011. They then pursued a Master of Science (MS) in Music and Art Technology at Purdue University from 2013 to 2015. In 2016, Mayowa attended the Gray Area Foundation For The Arts for a Creative Coding Immersive program. Prior to these academic experiences, Mayowa Tomori attended Bishop's Stortford College from 1998 to 2004, although no degree or field of study is mentioned for this period.
