John Sullivan has a diverse range of work experience in the education sector. John started their career as a School Age After School Program and Camp SummerFun Director at East End House in 1998. From 2000 to 2003, they worked as a 6th-8th Grade Science Teacher at Cambridge Public Schools. John then moved on to the NYC Department of Education, where they worked as a Living Environment & Earth Science Teacher from 2003 to 2004. In 2004, they joined Williamsburg Charter High School, where they held various roles, including Assistant Principal, Biology/Earth Science Teacher, and Dean of School Culture. John worked there until 2010 when they transitioned to Francis W Parker Charter Essential School. At Francis W Parker Charter Essential School, they served as a Math, Science & Environmental Sustainability Teacher and Student Advisor. Finally, in 2015, they joined MESA Charter High School as the Director of Student & Teacher Development. John'sresponsibilities at MESA included creating engaging learning experiences, developing curriculum, and assessment aligned with real-world scenarios.
John Sullivan's education history begins with their high school education at Rumson Fair Haven Regional High School, which they attended from 1988 to 1992. John then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications at West Chester University of Pennsylvania from 1992 to 1996. After a gap of several years, they furthered their education by obtaining a Master of Arts degree in Science Education with a concentration in Earth Science from The City University of New York between 2007 and 2009. Lastly, they sought additional certification in Creative Placemaking from New England College from 2017 to 2018, focusing on the field of City/Urban, Community and Regional Planning.
