Kjersti Opstad Strand has a diverse work experience in the field of meteorology and research. Kjersti Opstad began their career as a Meteorologist/Researcher at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute in 2012. Following this, they worked as a PHD fellow at the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) in Norway from 2015 to 2019. In this role, they focused on coupling ocean reanalysis, in-situ field data, and biophysical models for planktonic drift, with an emphasis on the Lofoten and Vesterålen area. Additionally, they worked as a Research Assistant at Uni Research in 2011 and as a Laboratory Leader at the University of Bergen, Geophysical Institute from August to October 2011. Prior to that, they were a Meteorologist Assistant at StormGeo from 2008 to 2011 and a Seminar Leader at the University of Bergen, Geophysical Institute from August to November 2010.
Kjersti Opstad Strand (PhD) attended the University of Bergen (UiB) from 2006 to 2009, where they earned a Bachelor's degree in Meteorology and Oceanography. In 2009, they participated in an exchange semester focused on Air-ice-sea interactions, Snow, and ice processes at The University Centre in Svalbard. That same year, they also attended a Summer School program at the University of Minnesota, USA, exploring Climate Change, Sustainability, and Policy Making. Kjersti Opstad returned to the University of Bergen (UiB) in 2009 and completed a Master's degree in Climate Dynamics - Meteorology and Oceanography from 2009 to 2011. Finally, Strand pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Oceanography at the University of Bergen (UiB) from 2015 to 2019.
