Aviva Schaffer serves as the Supervising Attorney for the Immigration Unit at MetroWest Legal Services since February 2024. Prior experience includes roles at Catholic Migration Services from September 2018 to January 2024, where Aviva held positions as Associate Supervising Attorney for the Pro Se Plus Project, Senior Staff Attorney, and Staff Attorney. Additional experience encompasses an externship with UNHCR in 2017, an internship at the Capital Area Immigrants' Rights Coalition, and participation in the University of Virginia Immigration Law Clinic. Aviva also gained valuable experience as a Volunteer Legal Intern at the Executive Office for Immigration Review and as a Program Coordinator at The Washington Center. Educational qualifications include a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the University of Rochester.

The mission of MetroWest Legal Services is to provide legal advocacy to protect and advance the rights of the poor, elderly, disabled and other disenfranchised people in our service area and to assist them in obtaining legal, social and economic justice. We help our clients secure access to basic needs and challenge institutional barriers in order to achieve equal justice for all. MetroWest Legal Services provides free civil legal aid to low-income people who would be denied justice without our help. Our priority practice areas include: Family Law, Housing, Homeless Advocacy, Government Benefits (including Social Security), Education, Elder Law & Immigration.
