Deborah Rookey

Deborah Rookey is a dedicated legal professional currently serving as a Staff Attorney at the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center since August 2022. Rookey has a strong editorial background, having held the position of Senior Editor at the Michigan Journal of Law & Society from June 2021 to July 2022, as well as contributing as an editor for the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform during the same period. Rookey’s practical experience includes roles as a Legal Intern at Women Enabled International, Inc. and a Human Rights Intern at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the UN, along with participation in student attorney roles at the Michigan Pediatric Advocacy Clinic and the Michigan Human Trafficking Clinic. Rookey's early career involved a Young Adult Volunteer position with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and an internship at Husch Blackwell. Rookey holds a Doctor of Law (JD) from the University of Michigan Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Multi/Interdisciplinary Studies from Washington University in St. Louis.
