Heather Behn

Heather Behn is an experienced microbiologist currently serving as Microbiologist III in Process Development at Microbial Discovery Group since January 2013. In this role, Heather leads a team focused on optimizing successful fermentation runs and troubleshooting challenges. Heather has been instrumental in developing and improving processes for bacterial culture inoculants, demonstrating over 95% accuracy in production plant applications. Prior experience includes roles as Microbiologist II and Lab Technician Intern, with a strong background in laboratory analyses, standard operating procedures, and fermentation customization. Earlier in their career, Heather worked at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding as a Mechanical Test Engineer, where responsibilities included maintenance coordination and supervision of chemical waste management. Heather holds a Master of Science in Biotechnology from Middle Tennessee State University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Valparaiso University. Heather's foundational training included Navy Nuclear Power Training and a high school diploma from New Trier Township High School.
