Jon Mccarthy

Chairman at Microscopy Innovations

Jon McCarthy was elected to the Microscopy Innovations board in 2012 and currently serves as chairman. Recently retired with emeritus status, Jon McCarthy served as director of Shared Instrumentation Facilities at University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering. Dr. McCarthy is former president of Thermo Noran, where he was responsible for company direction and P&L for this microanalysis division of Thermo Electron. He led the acquisition of several related companies, and the integration of Kevex and Spectrace into Thermo Noran.

Jon is an expert in materials analysis by x-ray microanalysis, design of energy dispersive x-ray spectrometers, and confocal microscopy. He has broad experience in materials characterization, and nanofabrication instrumentation and techniques. McCarthy is past president of the Microbeam Analysis Society. He holds his PhD in experimental physics from Iowa State University.
