Gary C. Kern

Gary C. Kern has extensive work experience in the field of information technology and management. Gary C. currently serves as the Chief Information Officer at The Middlefield Banking Company since June 2020. Prior to this, they were a member of the Indianapolis CIO/CISO Governing Body at Evanta, a Gartner Company from June 2017 to June 2020. From November 2004 to April 2020, they worked as the Chief Information Officer and Vice President at MutualBank, where they were responsible for all technology functions. Gary C. also held the position of Vice President of Strategic Development at MutualBank from September 2018 to March 2020.

Before joining MutualBank, Gary worked at Fiserv from August 2017 to December 2019, serving as a Nautilus Client Advisory Board Member and a member of the Cleartouch Strategic Planning Council. Gary C. was also the Vice President of IT at CHCS Services at Universal American in December 2003 to February 2004. Additionally, they held various IT positions at Lincoln Life & Annuity Co. of NY from 1988 to 2001, including the role of Chief Technology Officer for the New York affiliate.

Gary's career began at RR Donnelley in October 1983 as a Systems Analyst, and they later worked as the Executive Director of the Warsaw Community Development Corp. for a brief period in 1981.

In 1989, they pursued further education at Purdue University Fort Wayne, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Business from 1989 to 1992.

Kern continued their professional development by attending various educational programs. In 1992, they completed a certification program at the Life Office Management Association, obtaining the FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute) certification. In 2004, they achieved the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.

Expanding their knowledge in the banking industry, Kern attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Graduate School of Banking from 2007 to 2009, where they completed a graduate program in Banking. Additionally, in 2005, they graduated from the Muncie Academy of Community Leadership with a degree in Leadership.

During their earlier years of education, Kern attended Muncie Central High School from 1975 to 1979, where they obtained an Honors degree as part of their college preparatory studies.

In recent years, Kern has focused on cybersecurity management in the banking industry. Gary C. is currently pursuing a Certified Banking Cybersecurity Manager (CBCM) degree from the SBS Institute, with an expected completion date between 2018 and 2022. This program emphasizes Cyber/Computer Forensics and Counterterrorism within the field of cybersecurity.
