Steve Schindler began their career in 1968 as a farm hand for their father's farming partnership. Steve also assisted in the family's Grade A dairy business. In 1976, they worked as a lineman for Neligh Municipal Power Company until 1982. In 1982, they briefly worked as a route driver for Norfolk Daily News. Steve then joined the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in 1983 as a Bank Examiner. Steve later became an Associate National Bank Examiner at the US Treasury Department. In 1989, they joined Midwest Bank as an Executive Vice President. In 2004, Steve became a camp football coach at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln until 2007.
