Chief Compliance Officer at Millennium Laboratories

Darrell W. Contreras joined Millennium Health in 2015 as Chief Compliance Officer and oversees the Corporate Compliance Program, and reviews and evaluates compliance issues or concerns within the organization. He is a licensed attorney with extensive health care compliance experience.

Prior to joining Millennium Health, he founded and was a partner of JD HealthCare Partners, LLC, a compliance and risk management consulting firm where he worked with physician practices, health care clinics, health care clearinghouses, and clinical laboratories on legal, privacy, risk and compliance matters, including, HIPAA Privacy, assessments, training, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, preparation and response for state pain management clinic laws, standards, regulations and inspections, responding to Department of Health and Board of Medicine inquiries, and incorporating laws and regulations into existing operations.

Contreras began his career as a consultant for Ernst & Young’s Health Sciences Advisory Services practice, where he assisted hospitals and health care organizations with the development, implementation, and monitoring of corporate compliance and HIPAA Privacy programs. He later served as the Chief Compliance Officer for two large health care organizations, for which he was responsible for compliance, HIPAA Privacy programs.

A recognized expert, Contreras has spoken on compliance and privacy related topics to several professional organizations including the Health Care Compliance Association National Compliance Institute and Florida and Puerto Rico regional conferences, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, the Florida Association of Pain Medicine, and the Florida Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He has been published in health care compliance journals for topics related to compliance and privacy and serves as a member of the Compliance Certification Board Exam Committees for the Certified in Healthcare Compliance Fellowship (CHC-F), Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC), and Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC). He is on the faculty for the Health Care Compliance Association’s national Compliance and Privacy Academies.

Contreras earned his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Southern California and is an active member in good standing of the State Bar of Arizona. He obtained his risk management certification through the University of Florida and is licensed by the State of Florida as a health care risk manager. Contreras holds compliance certifications through the Healthcare Compliance Certification Board in the following: Certified Healthcare Compliance Fellow (CHC-F), Certified Healthcare Research Compliance (CHRC), and Certified Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC).
